About Me

Arnold Simanjuntak
Photographer
Base in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

I am a documentary and photojournalism photographer with over 17 years of professional experience in Indonesia. I previously worked as a news photographer for Tempo Newspaper and Tempo Magazine (2008–2013), covering social issues, culture, and feature stories across the country.

My work focuses on ethical visual storytelling that documents communities, social realities, and under-reported issues with clarity, context, and respect for the people involved. In 2011, I was selected to attend the Angkor Photo Workshop in Cambodia, which strengthened my commitment to long-term documentary practice.

My documentary project on the indigenous whale-hunting tradition in Lamalera, Indonesia, received the Grand Award at the Humanity Photo Award 2015.

Based in Yogyakarta, I collaborate with NGOs, media organizations, and research teams to produce publication-ready images for editorial platforms, reports, and advocacy campaigns.

Available for editorial assignments, NGO storytelling, and long-term documentary projects across Indonesia.
